The Beginning: All four seasons in one day? Sure, why not. Nothing stops a Yeti. Bitter cold morning temps, a half foot of snow, and what turned out to be a beautiful sunny and somewhat warm afternoon led to 26 wizards doing battle over the course of eight hours to crown our first annual 93/94 Yeti champion. YetiCon brought together friends of old and friends of new to raise over $1500 for the Jefferson County Action Center. Check out their charitable work! https://theactioncenter.org/

Tournament Structure: For this event we went with the Atlantic ruleset, with typical EC/American-style reprint allowances: all original art, original frame, non-foil printings (including Revised, 4th/Chronicles, FBB/FWB, CE/IE, WC, APs).
We were fortunate enough to be joined by one of Magic’s living legends Dan Frazier and as tribute we chose to errata Dan Frazier’s famous “Mountain Yeti” to a 3/4 in his honor.
With everyone arriving, it was time for check-ins…it was time for panic to set in.

Once we got pairings sorted we were off and running. Of course Brandon (featured in red above) went to orb flips in round 1, and Ryan Gresco (top right) was busy reversing force of nature’s upkeep damage, spirit linking it, and putting on a beatdown.

Charitable Giving: Helping the local community was a primary focus of the event. And I want to say thank you so much to everyone for all of the generous donations, contributions, time, and effort that was put into this event. We chose the Action Center, located in Lakewood Colorado.
Since 1968, The Action Center has been committed to expanding and refining its services to meet our participant’s ever-changing needs. The Action Center’s goal is to provide clients with a continuum of services to meet their current needs and become self-sufficient. All in all we were able to raise $1515.00 in total funds to donate to the Action Center! Well done Yetis!

You can learn more about the action center’s recent work, and if you are feeling so inclined, make further donations at: https://theactioncenter.org/donate/
Club Participation: Joining us for the event were members from various clubs across the states, including Beasts of the Bay, Gaeas Gang, Burning Mountain Juggernauts (our brothers from the western side the state), Hacks, Sin City Fallen Angels, SoCal Deep Spawners, Arizona Desert Twisters, and the New England Old Schoolers.

The Sin City Fallen Angels came through with an amazing spice award!

And the SoCal Deep Spawners were extremely generous in offering a Free entry into Risk 2023!

What would an old school event be without some original proxies, good beer, and clutch plays?

Thank you, so very much, to everybody who came out to play, and for everyone who donated! We hope to see you again next year! It was great seeing so many different communities represented from across the states, and the start to what I hope will be some regional competition!
