YetiCon 4

October, 2025

Bittersweet. A term for the woody nightshade, an American climbing plant that bears clusters of bright orange pods…or a widely used term that describes a complex emotion of simultaneous happiness and sadness. Simultaneous emotion hits the feels of YetiCon squarely on the head. Having so much fun, but knowing it will all come to an end to soon. That said, I had a blast. I hope everyone who was able to attend did too! Now, on to the details…

Casa Miller

This year we tested our limits. Under a full remodel of our typical guest space, we braved the construction wasteland, avoided stepping on nails and only received a few splinters with a rotation of over 8 guests across 3 days. Our crowning achievement was probably the assembly of our 12′ skeleton character. Thanks guys for all that you assisted with this weekend. We are now ready for Halloween.

The Event

The event itself was hosted by the Rocky Mountain Yetis in Denver Colorado on October 17th & 18th 2025 and featured two full days of Old School Magic, Pre-Modern Magic, Cube and Sorcery: Contested Realm. The Yetis hosted 60 entrants for Old School and over 60 for our combined Friday night events. We had representation from all over the world, including travels from the UK. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, the participants truly make this an amazing experience. Without your willingness to travel and hang out, these events simply wouldn’t be the same. THANK YOU!

Tournament Organizers

This year I had the help of a full team of TOs. My wife Sara, Evan, Brian, Brandon, and Jeremy.

Sara, without you YetiCon doesn’t happen. You’re not only beautiful and wicked smart, but absolutely integral to our process. Thank you so much for your continued participation, ideas, commitment to the charitable cause, and overall wonderful self. I love you!

Evan, thank you for stepping up to run PM this year and for all of your creative ideas and efforts. I felt like everything was a great success, and I hope your work with NARF will benefit as a result.

Brian and Brandon, the cubes were a smashing success. I love being able to offer such a variety of gaming options to our event attendees and I think you guys nailed it. Thank you for all the amazing swag, posters, prints, and bodyguard duties. Lets hope that one lady doesn’t return next year.

Jeremy, thank you for being the continued support of our Sorcery leg of YetiCon. Thank you for owning the back space and making it an amazing experience for our regulars and newcomers. I can’t wait to work with you again next year and to see how things grow for Sorcery and our groups.

Black Sky Brewing

We ran this year’s event back at the same venue as our 2024 event, Black Sky Brewing. If you’re ever in the Denver area please check them out! It’s a wonderful place with kickass music and food! Their kitchen staff (Mike and Team) went above and beyond this year with a full Mexican food spread chalked full of home recipes. It was damn delicious. Thank you!!!

Charitable Giving

We played in support of two charities this year: the Wounded Warrior Project and the Native American Rights Fund. The WWP offers a variety of programs and services to support veterans, including mental health support, career counseling, and long-term rehabilitative care. It’s my personal belief that the sacrifices our veterans and service members make enable us to nerd out on a weekend without a care in the world. Thank you to all of our service men and women.

The Native American Rights Fund (NARF) has provided legal assistance to Native American tribes, organizations, and individuals nationwide who might otherwise have gone without adequate representation. NARF has successfully asserted and defended the most important rights of Indians and tribes in hundreds of major cases, and has achieved significant results in such critical areas as tribal sovereignty, treaty rights, natural resource protection, voting rights, and Indian education.

We raised $12,405 to support these charities, and with a little help from the ongoing corporate matching programs. Thank you to everyone who contributed!!! I’m hopeful we made an impact in this otherwise sideways world.

Guest Artists!

This year’s YetiCon featured Anson and Brenda Maddocks, Dan Frazier, and Sorcery Artist Truitt Parrish. Anson brought the goods, offering a huge selection of altered APs, custom artworks, one of a kind prints and playmats. It was an honor and a pleasure to have you both out and I hope you consider coming back to a future Denver magic event.

This was Dan’s third YetiCon. He has been a constant supporter, overall amazing person, and really helped us earn a place among all the old school event options out there. Thank you so much for taking a risk on us and for your continued support.

Truitt attended for his second year in a row. He spoiled an amazing artwork for the upcoming new Sorcery Set release: Gothic.

De Vermis Mysteriis captures the thrill and terror of forbidden discovery, the moment curiosity outweighs caution and the consequences come clawing through. Truitt Parish’s meticulous craft and imaginative daring make this piece a perfect fit for Gothic’s blend of beauty and dread. Check out the announcement and spoiler video below!

Custom Arts

At this stage our annual South Park themed card has earned a lot of interest in the OS community. Everyone looks forward to seeing what the next card will be. Credit to the Simpson brothers for not only designing the card each year, but having their significant other(s) pitch in on the artworks. Big shoutout to Pete this year for helping design our strip mine format as well. It was a success, and allowed a little more brew space for those that wanted it. This format will be run in the November 2025 NEOS monthly, so if you haven’t had enough, or want to try it out go check it out!

Final Word

YetiCon is a special event. It represents an opportunity to build friendships, rekindle old ones, and visit with friends, family, and loved ones. It allows us a chance to give back while participating in something we all love. Thank you, so very much to everybody who came out to play, for everyone who donated, and to Black Sky for hosting us! Join us next year for a special fifth year anniversary event…CastleCon.
