YetiCon 3: Death’s Door

Few things in life are more exciting than hanging out with your friends. When you get to hang out with your friends, family, and jam magic & sorcery for an entire weekend…well lets just say it’s impossible to beat.

YetiCon 3.0: Deathโ€™s Door was hosted by the Rocky Mountain Yetis in Denver Colorado on October 19th & 20th 2024 and featured two full days of Old School Magic and Sorcery: Contested Realm. The Yetis hosted over 56 entrants for Old School & 26 for Sorcery across both days. We had representation from all over the country, including a new group from Idaho, and new travelers from the West and East coasts. Iโ€™ve said it before, and Iโ€™ll say it again, the participants truly make this a grand experience. Without your willingness to travel and hang out, these events simply wouldnโ€™t be the same. THANK YOU!

Our venue for the 2024 year was Black Sky Brewing. If you’re ever in the Denver area please check them out, and ask CJ about the event! It’s a wonderful place with kickass music and food!

We played in support of the Wounded Warrior Project this year. The WWP offers a variety of programs and services to support veterans, including mental health support, career counseling, and long-term rehabilitative care. Itโ€™s my personal belief that the sacrifices our veterans and service members make empower us to nerd out on a weekend without a care in the world. Thank you to all of our service men and women. Iโ€™m humbled, honored, blown away by the support from this group of metal heads and magic nerds. We raised over $7300 ($14,600 with USAA matching!) to support this charity more than doubling my target goal.

Congratulations folks, we did it! THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Pete was our Door Guard and is a Wounded Warrior

Artist Love

This yearโ€™s YetiCon featured Kev Brockschmidt, attending his first ever Old School Magic Tournament on US Soil. Kev painted us some beautiful portraits to help raise funds for the WWP. Thank you so much Kev!!

Attending for his second year, the legendary Dan Frazier made an appearance and altered & signed non-stop for hours. Thanks for coming to hang out with us again Dan!!!

We also had Truitt Parish join us on Sunday for the Sorcery event, and brought with him some original paintings which were scooped up by our Yetis from grand junction! Congratulations Mason on the killer arts.

Wife Love

I can’t believe I didn’t include the Wife call out this year. So, as Dan Frazier would say, let me try to win you back! For the third year in a row Sara was our champion TO. She even helped prep the booster packs with her own curling irons, and pre-assembled ticket packs for the raffle. Her continued support and ideas for this event have made it better and better each year. Thank you for everything you do Sara. Love you

Sorcery

In addition to our Old School Magic event on Saturday, the Yetis ran it back Sunday with a 26 person Sorcery event. Amazing games were had, incredible playmats were showcased, and even Truitt’s girlfriend tried her hand at some Sorcery!

Brian U’s ridiculous pulls from that raffle box.

Final Word

YetiCon is a special event. It represents an opportunity to spend time with friends, family, and loved ones. It allows us a chance to give back while participating in something we all hold sacred. Thank you, so very very very much, to everybody who came out to play, for everyone who donated, and to Black Sky for hosting us! I hope you enjoyed the quirky theme, and the format. Until next time.

P.S. Whoever has my inflatable tits, can you please return? Thanks

One response to “YetiCon 3: Death’s Door”

  1. Running OS and Sorcery together is super rad. And then to have artists too? Amazing. Hope you got some time to get some games in between taking all those photos! ๐Ÿ™‚
